Virtual Vigil
Holy Saturday - April 11, 2020
At the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night, we begin by lighting a fire in the darkness. From that fire we light the Easter candle and that light spreads thru church as everyone's own candle is lit. Then we hear the proclamation of the ancient song, the Exsultet which begins:
The angels and the hosts of heaven join in a song of triumph and praise! Then we hear readings beginning with the Creation story and tracing the journey of salvation history (when a reading is sung, there won't be a sung response). Finally we turn on all of the lights and burst into singing the Gloria! We hear the Gospel of Jesus' resurrection.
When we have people entering the Church community, we move to the baptism ceremony. Since this is virtual, we have no baptisms. We proceed with the celebration of the Eucharist.
A special thank you to our friends @ OneLicense.net who make sure that our artists get paid for their work. Here at St. V's, we are proud to maintain a license so that artists get paid. All rights reserved.
If time and weather allow, light a fire in your backyard and join us as we hold a vigil in the night:

It wouldn't be church without a collection, right?
Even though you can't join us in person right now, we still have our neighbors who are homeless who need food every day. We continue to provide food - with heightened levels of safety. These extraordinary measures cost us more money than usual. If you can assist us in our mission to our community, please donate what you can.

Note: this is NOT a video of mass; the Eucharist is being celebrated privately on our behalf by the Archbishop and others (links can be found at archstl.org). This is a glimpse of what you would have heard and seen at St. Vincent's this weekend if we could have all been here together.
