Liturgy This Week

2nd Sunday of Easter - April 19, 2020

Note: this is NOT a video of mass; the Eucharist is being celebrated privately on our behalf by the Archbishop and others (links can be found at archstl.org). This is a glimpse of what you would have heard and seen at St. Vincent's this weekend if we could have all been here together.

On this Sunday we are still in the Octave of Easter -- the Church always celebrates this week as if every day was Easter! For a week and a day. If we had had daily mass, we would have been using the Gloria every day. Today we still use Psalm 118, which is also the psalm for Easter morning; last week the refrain was "This Is The Day the Lord Has Made", this week we sing, "Give Thanks to the Lord for He Is Good!"

In the Acts of the Apostles, we find the Apostles building the early Church. We hear Peter tell the people that although they might be suffering now, there is every reason to rejoice in Jesus!

Finally, we find Thomas showing up and finding the others huddled in fear; it's no wonder he doesn't believe them. But our Lord appears and we believe.

BTW, we don't have any coffee and donuts today. However, if you stick around 'til the end -- we do have a special treat for you!

A special thank you to our friends @ OneLicense.net who make sure that our artists get paid for their work. Here at St. V's, we are proud to maintain a license so that artists get paid.

We cannot gather together physically today, so we join together in spirit with:

It wouldn't be church without a collection, right?

Even though you can't join us in person right now, we still have our neighbors who are homeless who need food every day. We continue to provide food - with heightened levels of safety. These extraordinary measures cost us more money than usual. If you can assist us in our mission to our community, please donate what you can.

This week's Coffee and Donuts bonus track just for you:

While you grab a cup of coffee or milk or juice and your favorite treat, here is Patrick Wells singing an adaptation of an old African American spiritual that strikes at what might have been in the heart of the Apostle Thomas that morning when all he wanted was to see his dear friend, Jesus, again.

Give Me Jesus
arr: Tom Kendzia (Permission to podcast / stream the music in this service obtained from ONE LICENSE, License #A-720006. All rights reserved.)
Stay safe.
