Liturgy This Week

5th Sunday of Easter - May 10, 2020

Note: this is NOT a video of mass; the Eucharist is being celebrated privately on our behalf by the Archbishop and others (links can be found at archstl.org). This is a glimpse of what you would have heard and seen at St. Vincent's this weekend if we could have all been here together.

Happy Mothers' Day! We are so glad to get together (virtually) remembering that we are family. And that our families began with our Moms. Let's take a moment to pray for all mothers in this world. May God's abundant grace be with every mother, everywhere.

This Sunday Jesus tells us "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God, have faith also in me."

He went on to say that we should go where He is going. Thomas says that we don't know the way. Jesus patiently explains that the way to the Father is thru Jesus himself. He is the way to the Father.

We also hear about the early Church realizing the need for more help, the help of the people; and thus the establishment of deacons.

Saint Peter brings us back to an ancient scripture that uses an architectural image: the cornerstone. He tells us that Jesus is in fact our cornerstone.

It seems that today we are being called to both trust in Jesus (our foundation and the way to the Father) and to work together, recognizing that the Kingdom is already here.

BTW, we don't have any coffee and donuts today. However, if you stick around 'til the end -- we do have a special treat for you!

A special thank you to our friends @ OneLicense.net who make sure that our artists get paid for their work. Here at St. V's, we are proud to maintain a license so that artists get paid.

We cannot gather together physically today, so we join together in spirit with:

It wouldn't be church without a collection, right?

Even though you can't join us in person right now, we still have our neighbors who are homeless who need food every day. We continue to provide food - with heightened levels of safety. These extraordinary measures cost us more money than usual. If you can assist us in our mission to our community, please donate what you can.

This week's Coffee and Donuts bonus track for Mothers' Day:

While you grab a cup of coffee or milk or juice and your favorite treat, here is a video of Ike Ndolo's "Awake O Sleeper" sung by Teri Wells, Chrissy Wingbermuehle, and the Rt. Rev. Doug Sparks, Episcopal Bishop of Northern Indiana. We recorded this in July 2019 during our 175th Anniversary celebration weekend. Bishop Doug put this video together this past Advent as a message of hope. The beginning of today's gospel is the source of this refrain: "Don't let your hearts be troubled..."
